George Hinks is a sculptural artist artist based in London, greatly influenced by his maritime upbringing in Portsmouth, South England. He studied in Photography (Hons), BA at the University of Westminster (London, UK), and has been awarded “The Signature Art Prize 2019”. Hinks explores function and materiality, constructing objects that are surreal yet domestically comprehensible. His works are influenced by the ornate, dramatic forms of gothic furniture and architecture combined with the raw functional design of modern industrial structures - particularly those found in maritime settings. He invites viewers to reconsider objects’ utility, meaning and presence.
