Sheer is a light, translucent fabric. It covers something, yet lets you half-see what lies beneath. Skin, silk, canvas, paper and the glossy surface of an image all share this quality: they look whole, yet something underneath always shows through.

This exhibition brings together seven artists whose backgrounds span Europe and Asia. Each works from their own materials in response to a shared question: how are the languages, traditions, standards of beauty and identities we inherit layered onto us, one over another? And what is now showing through the gaps in those coverings?
