Ruoheng Li

Ruoheng Li was born in Beijing in 1993 and currently lives between Madrid and Beijing. She holds a Master's degree in Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art in London (2023) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles (2018).

She excels at combining the properties of her materials with her artistic themes to create emotionally rich works.

Her work has been exhibited across the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, Colombia, China, and elsewhere, and has been collected by collectors around the world for its distinctive cultural perspective and visual language. In her 2024 series The Radiant Metropolis, she renders global cityscapes in white and colored pearls set into black velvet, using the contrast between tabric and pearl to build dimension out of a flat image, capturing each city's temperament as much as its skyline.

This piece captures Milan's hold on the imagination, a city often held up as an unreachable ideal. (105x61cm, Velvet, Pearls, Acrylic, 2024).

Ruoheng traces the ornamental window mullions found throughout the city in Baroque pearls, a quiet pun since Baroque pearls are the very origin of the word "Baroque." The symmetrical, balanced composition carries Milan's particular elegance, aristocratic and just out of reach.
